Having a small business website built for you needn’t break the bank and should pay for itself through the new sales generated. The thought that you could build your own website may have crossed your mind but you may not sure if it would be cost effective or not. Think about the following points. Primarily, do you have the time needed to dedicate to putting a website together? and secondly, what do you want your website to achieve for you?
It is not impossible to build your own basic site for your business. Not that I am suggesting web design is a piece of cake.. it is however an area in which you can gain fairly goodresults with a little applied learning and study.

Building your own business website in this situation is not going to do you, your business or your family life any favours and if you aren’t focused on what you are trying to achieve then the results aren’t going to do your business justice.
Next you need to ask yourself this second question. What do you hope your new website will accomplish for you? You need to consider where your niche within the market fits in. Take a look at some of your direct competitors websites.
If you are wanting your website to give you a basic web presence with your contact details, enabling potential customers in your local area to find and contact you. A small site appearing in the search engine results may be all you want. Building this type of basic website would be wholly manageable.
The type of business you are in however may require something more professional. Would a basic looking site give the right impression to your potential customers? Carry out a Google search for some search terms that you would like to have a website ranking for. Look at the degree of competition and look at the quality of their websites. You may decide that your competitors sites are of a significant standard and the best course of action for your business is to employ a professional to design and build your site.
To summarise all of the above; If you feel sure about your ability to produce a website of a high enough quality and feel you have plenty of time to commit to the job in hand, then give it a go. If you are not sure, then you should hire a professional. Something to note is that building is just stage one, if no one can locate it on Google then you have wasted your time. For your website to be successful, you need it to reach high in the search engine rankings.
You are missing potential sales and clients if you have no web presence to advertise your small business. Whilst it may not be impossible to build your own business website, you need to examine whether or not you have the the spare time to learn the new skills necessary and if you will be able to produce a site of sufficient quality to meet your needs.
